Description
Offered for sale are 3 Solid Wood Duck Decoys consisting of a Black Duck, Drake Redhead, and Ruddy Duck by Lester "Butch" Parker (1952-2015) of Holtwood, Pennsylvania. Holtwood is along the Susquehanna River 30 miles north of Havre de Grace, MD. The Black Duck is large and very heavy for its size measuring 17" x 7.5" making it a substantial decoy. Butch inserted tack eyes, a dog bone weight, and copper rigging ring. The copper tag indicates this decoy was made while Parker was living in Lancaster, PA. Very few of his decoys were made here. There are some scratches and dents to the body, but the paint is still intact as seen in photos 7 & 9. The drake Redhead has a folky appearance with an oversized head and neck compared to the body, and Butch antiqued this particular decoy some with intentional rubbing to the sides and bill. A long nail secures the head to the body. Unfortunately, the lead weight and rigging ring have been removed on the underside, but the original copper tag and hot brand are still present. Approximately 14" x 6" in size. The last bird is a diminutive drake Ruddy Duck measuring just 10 x 6 inches. Rusted tack eyes along with antiqued brown paint, intentional rubbing to the sides of the body, and thinly painted white cheeks give an old appearance to the contemporary decoy. The bottom has the lead weight, leather rigging strap, and large "PARKER" hot brand. The decoys will be bubble wrapped and mailed in a larger box with plenty of extra cardboard and paper packing material. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. The wood decoy stands are not included in the auction listing. The 3 decoys are the only items for sale. Thanks so much for looking!
