Description

Offered for sale are 3 Solid Wood Duck Decoys consisting of a Coot and 2 Drake Blue-winged Teals by Lester "Butch" Parker (1952-2015) of Holtwood, Pennsylvania. Holtwood is along the Susquehanna River 30 miles north of Havre de Grace, MD. The coot is well done and correctly exhibits the red frontal shield that is missing on many coot carvings. Parker carved a curved mandible separation on the bill and painted the red eyes. There may be a couple of very small spots of touch-up to the black paint on the back and side (photos 8 & 9). Some scattered small scrapes and rubs are present along with some very small dents. The carving is life-size and measures 13" long and 6.5" tall. The first teal has a very appealing paint scheme with bright colors on a long narrow body while t he second drake has a much more muted paint pattern. Both decoys measure approximately 13" in length and 4.5" tall. The paint is all original on the pair with no touch-up, and the decoys are free of cracks and repairs. The muted teal has tack eyes and an old nail helping to secure the head to the body. There are some abrasions and scuffing to the paint on the back of the duller teal but does not stand out (photo 21). The undersides of all 3 decoys retain all their hardware and have combinations of lead keel weights, rigging rings, maker's copper tags, leather line ties, and "PARKER" hot brands as seen in photo 5. The decoys will be bubble wrapped and mailed in a larger box with plenty of extra cardboard and paper packing material. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. The wood decoy stands are not included in the auction listing. The 3 decoys are the only items for sale. Thanks so much for looking. This is a nice group!
